Terms
Last updated 25 October 2026
These terms cover your use of Slate (slate.ruytha.dev), run by Ruytha Studios. Slate shares one account with Shutter, which has its own terms. How we handle your data is on the privacy page, which covers every Ruytha Studios app.
Your work stays yours
You keep every right to your scripts, shot lists, frames, schedules, call sheets and take logs. We claim no rights to anything you make with Slate. We store it only so Slate can show it back to you, sync it between your devices, and show a call sheet to the people you share it with.
Your account
- You need to be at least 13 to create an account. If the law where you live sets a higher age for using online services without a parent's consent, you need to meet that age, or have that consent.
- An account is for one person. Don't share it, and don't sign up as someone else.
- Keep your sign-in details to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has used your account. You're responsible for what happens under it.
- Sign-in is provided by Clerk, so their terms also apply to how you sign in.
Cast and crew details
Only add people's names, roles, phone numbers or email addresses to Slate with their permission, and only what the shoot needs. You're responsible for the details you add and for keeping them up to date. Remove them when they're no longer needed.
Shared call sheets
Anyone with a call sheet's link can open it without an account. You choose what's on the sheet and who you send the link to, and you're responsible for that. Stop sharing a link as soon as it's no longer needed, for example if it reaches someone it shouldn't; the link then stops working. Nothing on a shared sheet may be unlawful, abusive, or something you don't have the right to share.
Your projects and sync
Slate keeps your projects on your device, so it works on set with no signal. While sync is on, they're also copied to your account and come back when you sign in elsewhere; changes made offline are sent once you reconnect, and if the same item was changed on two devices, the most recent change wins. With sync off, projects are only on your device, and we can't recover them if your browser data is cleared or the device is lost. Don't treat sync as your only copy of anything important.
Slate and Shutter
When you sign in to both, Shutter can show the takes you logged in Slate for a clip, and Slate can show whether a take has review notes in Shutter. Only you see this; it's never shown to anyone you share a call sheet with.
Planning figures
Times and durations in Slate, such as a day's running order, are worked out from what you enter. Check anything that matters, like call times and travel, before you send it to the crew.
Price
Slate is free. If we ever add paid features, we'll add their terms here first and nothing will be charged without you choosing it.
Ending your account
Your account is shared with Shutter, so you delete it from Shutter's Settings, under Manage account, and that ends both. Turning sync off in Slate's settings deletes your account's copies of your projects straight away. To have your Slate projects and shared call sheets removed from our database as well, email us at the address below. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. Where we can, we'll tell you why.
Fair use
Don't use Slate to break the law, to attack the service, to get around its limits, or to collect information about other people.
No warranty
Slate is provided as it is. We work to keep it running and accurate, but we can't promise it will be free of errors or always available, and we aren't liable for losses from using it, such as a missed call time or lost project, to the extent the law allows.
Changes
If these terms change, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Using Slate after that means you accept the new version.
